St. John’s Hospital is a regional medical center offering a comprehensive array of health care services to a population base of 1.5 million central and southern Illinois residents. St. John’s is the flagship hospital of Hospital Sisters Health System, a health care ministry with 13 hospitals and a multi-specialty medical groups in Illinois and Wisconsin.
In 2010, St. John’s opened its new Outpatient Surgery Center and received permission from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to modernize its inpatient surgery department and renovate four floors in the Patient Tower. Our ability to provide area residents with the high quality health care they have come to expect also increased in 2010 with the opening of several new primary care facilities. St. John’s Health Centers are a joint effort between the hospital and HSHS Medical Group physicians.
St. John’s Hospital was named one of the nation’s Top 50 hospitals for coronary bypass surgery in 2010. This recognition was based on data submitted by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. St. John’s also was named one of the nation’s Top 100 hospitals for cardiovascular care by Thomson Reuters in 2009. St. John’s was one of six hospitals in the state to receive the designation, and the only hospital in central Illinois.
St. John’s and HSHS received a Partner for Change award from Practice Greenhealth in 2010. This award recognizes health care facilities that work cooperatively to monitor and create success in environmental performance. Only five systems in the nation received this recognition.
In 2010 St. John’s Children’s Hospital became a voting member of the the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions. The Children’s Hospital is home to the area’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and has dedicated air and ground transportation support.
